About Me
I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (#A21536) in North Carolina. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where I received my Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Before pursuing a career as a mental health counselor, I was a community organizer and student researcher and spent my time organizing campaigns and protests to support labor unions and designing research projects to promote restorative story telling as a tool for liberation in Central America.
In my role as a counselor, I am a warm, empathetic presence to my clients, helping them unlock the wisdom and knowledge that lies within them. I utilize a trauma informed feminist, existential, somatic, and liberation psychology lens.
Social Locators
I identify as Black, autistic non-binary lesbian, so I know firsthand how impactful systems of oppression can be. That’s why I welcome all identities into the counseling space such as race, gender, sexuality, socio-economic status, ethnicity, and immigration status, knowing that oppression as a result of these identities can be harmful to our mental health. My work with clients centers around finding joy and resistance outside of white supremacist, cis and heteronormative, and neuronormative ways of being, helping my clients curate a life where they thrive in community and can strive towards a life worth living.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is relational and collaborative with a focus on liberation. In the counseling space, I utilize an eclectic mix of approaches, tailoring my approach to best suit my clients’ needs. I also adhere to a Liberation Psychology framework, which means that I take oppression and discrimination seriously within a client’s life. Racism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, colorism, and all the other forms of oppression can be traumatic for marginalized people experiencing discrimination and violence based on their identity. I want all my clients to feel validated in their identity and comfortable discussing aspects of their identity as they relate to their unique life circumstances. In the space we co-create together, we establish therapeutic goals that align with your personal goals for life. We explore meaning making, systemic harm, somatic awareness, dialectical truths, and nurturing the child within. As a counselor, it would be an honor to accompany you on your healing journey.
My Therapy Orientation
Liberation Psychology, DBT, Feminist Theory Counseling, Somatic Approaches, Existentialism, and Inner Child Work.
